what is borderline personality disorder? (bpd)

a pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects, and marked impulsivity, beginning in early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts.

DSM-V states that five of the following nine criteria must be present for a borderline diagnosis:

  1. Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment

  2. A pattern of unstable & intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization & devaluation

  3. Identity disturbance: persistently unstable self-image or sense of self

  4. Impulsivity in 2+ self-damaging areas (i.e. spending, substance abuse, sex)

  5. Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures/threats, or self-mutilating behavior

  6. Affective instability due to reactivity of mood (i.e. intense episodic euphoria)

  7. Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms

  8. Chronic feelings of emptiness

  9. Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger

why does it matter?

Bringing awareness to borderlines.

The mission?

Visibility for a widely underrepresented group mainly consisting of women!

Who is the story for?

Those with BPD (or other mental health issues) -- to give them visibility, let them know that they are not crazy, or inherently bad; there are paths to healing.

Those who love someone with BPD (or other mental health issues) -- to help them gain insight into the internal lives of disordered minds, and give them tools to help.

Everyone else -- this provides another lens with which to see the world and the people in it, allowing room for empathy while also serving to entertain.

Want to get involved?

I want to make this film more than anything in the entire world, so any help is beyond appreciated!
